Thyroid hormone: effects on electron transport.
نویسنده
چکیده
Thyroidectomy markedly reduces the oxidative capacity of rat liver mitochondria. After the injection of triidothyronine about half of the lost capacity is recovered within 3 hours. This rapid recovery is not associated with any change in the amounts of electron transport components, although the activities of cytochromes b and c are significantly increased by the hormone.

Transport of thyroid hormones is selectively inhibited by 3-iodothyronamine.
Thyroid hormone transporters are responsible for the cellular uptake of thyroid hormones, which is a prerequisite for their subsequent metabolism and action at nuclear thyroid hormone receptors. A recently discovered thyroid hormone derivative, 3-iodothyronamine (T(1)AM), has distinct biological effects that are opposite those of thyroid hormone. Here we investigate the effects of T(1)AM on thy...
متن کاملEffects of Thyroid Hormone (T4, T3 ), Bromocriptine And Triac on Inappropriate TSH Hypersecretion
Inappropriate TSH hypersecretion was diagnosed in a 34 years old woman. Earlier she had been treated by ablative therapy for hyperthyroidism. The present diagnosis was based on elevated basal serum TSH levels despite elevated serum free thyroid hormone level. Her TSH responses to TRH (peak value 240 mu/I) was high. Her albumin and prealbumin levels were normal. The serum TBG level, alpha subuni...

Purpose: The aim of present study was to assay and compare the effects of topical administration of Aloe Vera gel, thyroid hormone cream and silver sulfadiazine cream on wound healing in Wistar rats. Materials and Methods: In a randomized controlled trial, twelve Wistar male rats, 250 to 300 g, were divided randomly into 5 groups on the basis of the drug treatments: Aloe Vera gel (AV), thyroid ...
متن کاملSupplementation of T3 Recovers Hypothyroid Rat Liver Cells from Oxidatively Damaged Inner Mitochondrial Membrane Leading to Apoptosis
Hypothyroidism is a growing medical concern. There are conflicting reports regarding the mechanism of oxidative stress in hypothyroidism. Mitochondrial oxidative stress is pivotal to thyroid dysfunction. The present study aimed to delineate the effects of hepatic inner mitochondrial membrane dysfunction as a consequence of 6-n-propyl-2-thiouracil-induced hypothyroidism in rats. Increased oxidat...
متن کاملThyroid: biological actions of 'nonclassical' thyroid hormones.
Thyroid hormones (THs) are produced by the thyroid gland and converted in peripheral organs by deiodinases. THs regulate cell functions through two distinct mechanisms: genomic (nuclear) and nongenomic (non-nuclear). Many TH effects are mediated by the genomic pathway--a mechanism that requires TH activation of nuclear thyroid hormone receptors. The overall nongenomic processes, emerging as imp...
